Eiki Mori
intimacy  (2014)

$

Eiki Mori’s award-winning photobook, intimacy, delves into the subtle and often overlooked moments of human connection, focusing on male subjects in domestic settings. Through soft-hued, low-contrast 35mm snapshots, Mori chronicles a year of relationships, ranging from deep friendships to fleeting romantic encounters. Designed by Daishiro Mori and printed by Sun M Color in Kyoto, this work captures a unique homoerotic tenderness that questions the heteronormative expectations of Japanese society. This evocative portrayal earned Mori the 39th Kimura Ihei Award in 2014, cementing the book’s place in the landscape of contemporary Japanese photography.
